Malabar College Days To Me A Golden Era ----------------------- The lion's share of my Golden Era as a faculty of English Literature dealing with University students extents about two eventful decades since 2003 and ends by 2013. The two college premises of Malabar Arts And Science College Kalpetta and Sulthan's Bathery offered me such a great mission for my quest for teaching which itself is the best opportunity of learning and expanding our inner resouces and possibilities. I found learning a magic tonic of expansion and proved that every expansion was life .I got the realisation that mere breathing was not life .Thus we learnt that every soul is potentially divine and it seeks an opportunity to support its growth . Mr R.Rajagopal and Mr .Ramachandran Founded The Malabar Education Trust at Badagara and extended its function in wayanadu District a part of Western ghat which accomodated several tribal communities such as Paniyas ,Kurumbas ,Kurichias ,Naikars ,cholanaikars ,Mountadan chetties etc .Among them ,Kuruchiars were the soldiers of gorilla warfare under Pazhassi Raja . There were hundreds of men women dropped their education due to lack of opportunities .We gave coaching and made many pass SSLC and then guided to Higher Secondary courses and then to UG and P.G.Courses. Our concerted devotion earned much good will and The Tamilnadu Universities Specifically Madurai Kamaraj University ,Madras University offered Franchise with Examination centre for various UG &PG Courses. The great Universities were magnanimous to entrust me the charge of The Supdt. Of Examinations of Kalpetta centre for which I am indebted to Sri .Ramachandran master . The colleges made their debut bare handed now possess to building complexes at Kalpetta and Sulthan's Bathery . The venture of Malabar college continues changing itself as per the demands of the time and give coachings and trainings for technical and professional courses . The fire of enlightenment lighted by Malabar Educational Trust is at peak growth and the flames of its spirit dances with the breeze . I still vividly remember the inaugural moment of Malabar College in Kalpetta — the large, thoughtfully printed notice by Ramachandran Sir announcing the beginning of a new educational chapter for Wayanad. The event was nothing short of historic, attended by prominent personalities from across the district, including the local Member of Parliament. From that very first day, it was evident that this institution was driven by a strong and far-sighted vision. What followed was a story of commitment, compassion, and consistent growth. Over the years, Malabar College has become a pillar of hope for countless students in Wayanad — many of whom came from rural, tribal, and economically challenged backgrounds. I have personally seen students who once struggled to even imagine college life now thriving in professional careers, all thanks to the opportunities offered by this institution. On several occasions, I reached out to Ramachandran Sir, requesting fee concessions for students from financially struggling families. His response was always the same — warm, understanding, and action-oriented. He never made it about paperwork or formalities. He made it about people. That human touch has defined the ethos of Malabar College from the beginning. In a district like Wayanad, where access to higher education has long been limited, the contributions of Malabar College are both timely and transformative. The institution has not only filled a critical gap but has done so with quality, integrity, and a heart for service. It’s truly inspiring to see how Malabar College has earned the trust of students, parents, and the wider community. Their steady growth — from humble beginnings to a multi-campus institution — is a testament to the dedication and values upheld by its founders and faculty.
